The most common types of Exotic Wagers are Exacta and Trifecta bets that require predicting the top two or three finishers in a race. When betting an Exacta, the bettor predicts the top two finishers in a race in the proper order. A Trifecta bet requires picking the top three finishers in the correct order. If the bet wins, the ticket could be worth a small fortune, but the horses must come in the exact predicted finish, which is why they are hard to hit. Bettors who don’t mind shorter but still long odds can choose to “box” either an Exacta or Trifecta bet and they will win so long as the predicted horses finish in either the top two or three places in any order. A boxed Trifecta bet will cost more than a regular Trifecta bet due to the potential for several winning combinations.
